“THE PASSENGER”

As a photographer, James Mastro brings the same sense of wonder and adventure that resonates in his music: A peeling away of layers, a focus on something in the corner of your eye, finding beauty in a rusted factory as easily as a flowering cactus. The images in this exhibit span the past three years, with travels that include the continental States, Greece and the UK. "Many of my photos are taken from a backseat while moving at 70 miles per hour," says Mastro. "It's a combination of quick reflexes and luck when something catches my eye."
On tour, Mastro always kept journals; but lately, he uses photography to remember the day. "I get a song lyric or idea out of many of the images I capture. They put me back in a scene, and then the imagination just adds more color." Take a look, and you just might find a song of your own in these photographs.

ABOUT JAMES MASTRO

Mastro's music career began in the early glory days of NYC's Lower East Side in the '70s. At the age of 17, he was already a veteran of the CBGB's/Max's Kansas City scene, as rhythm guitarist for Televison's Richard Lloyd Group. In the '80s, he was a member of The Bongos, Hoboken's premier band that recorded and toured non-stop through much of that decade. Health & Happiness Show was the Mastro-fronted band in the '90s, an alt-country fave signed to Bar/None Records, and touring with the likes of Wilco and Butch Hancock. In 2000, Mastro became a recording and touring member of legendary Mott the Hoople's Ian Hunter band, where he still is involved. In between all that, other luminaries he's worked with include Patti Smith, John Cale, Alejandro Escovedo, Garland Jeffreys, Phoebe Snow, and Robert Plant. His latest album, Dawn of a New Error, was released early last year on MPress Records, and he has been touring nonstop since then.

BOB BERT PHOTO EXHIBIT: The Underbelly of Counterculture Music & Art Scene 1977-2003 - 6/8-7/27

OPENING RECEPTION June 8, 6:30-9:30

Bob Bert, world-renowned drummer with the likes of Sonic Youth, Pussy Galore, Lydia Lunch, Jon Spencer, and more, has always had one eye on the viewfinder, and this exhibit documents an exciting time in music.

"The Underbelly of Counterculture Music and Art Scene"
1977 - 2003
After High School in Clifton, NJ, Bob Bert fascinated by underground music and the art world especially Andy Warhol and the scene at his Factory in NYC with the Velvet Underground, took
classes at the School of Visual Art in photography, painting, printmaking etc. He moved to NYC in 1978 and became a professional fine art silkscreen printer and ended up printing Warhol’s print editions and paintings while in the bands Sonic Youth and Pussy Galore. Always a big music fan and a witness to the fascinating scene developing at CBGB and Max’s Kansas City while never even thinking of pursuing being a musician or being in a band. That all changed when Bob moved to Hoboken in 1981. After seeing the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show at the age of 8 and the British Invasion that followed, he took drum lessons for a year at the age of 12. Driving his family nuts banging away in the basement and having friends come over attempting to play Dirty Water by the Standells and Cream songs. Bob put the drums aside when he moved out of the family house at 18 to pursue art, glam rock, experiment with psychedelics and pot and go to tons of
music shows big and small. In 1981 in Hoboken Bob accidentally found himself in a band. He never stopped. In 1982 he joined the band Sonic Youth recording and going on their very first
tours of the US and Europe. From there he recorded and toured the world with Pussy Galore, Bewitched, Action Swingers, Chrome Cranks, Knoxville Girls, and in more recent times with Lydia
Lunch Retrovirus, Jon Spencer & the HiTmakers and Wolfmanhattan Project (with Kid Congo Powers and Mick Collins).
In the 90’s Bob Bert and his partner artist Linda Wolfe started the much acclaimed BB Gun Magazine, a yearly zine dedicated to the counterculture of music and art. The 7th and last issue was released in 2004. In 2019 HoZac Books published the book “I’m Just The Drummer” My time behind Sonic Youth, Pussy Galore, Chrome Cranks & BB Gun Magazine - photography &
interviews by Bob Bert. Currently out of print, a 3rd printing hopefully will happen this year. Bob Bert is currently working on his first solo album. And as it says on Sonny Bono’s grave “The Beat Goes On.“

Bob continues to be the charm in the room wherever Rock N Roll is made” - Thurston Moore
(Sonic Youth)
“Photographer, journalist, documentarian, Bob Bert has crawled through the musical underbelly
of the last few decades unscathed. Still Rockin’, Still Vital, Still Cool, Yeah Still Cool” - Lydia
Lunch
“We know that Bob is way more than just the drummer, Add photography and painting to the
Molotov cocktail of talent and watch as my mind blows the fuck up” - Kid Congo Powers
(Cramps, Gun Club, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Knoxville Girls, Wolfmanhattan Project)

Terre Roche has just completed a tour of 7 shows as a member of the new band "Exposure" which brings Robert Fripp's 1979 album "Exposure" to audiences live for the first time. She was one of the original singers on the album.

A singer, songwriter, guitar player, teacher, author, innkeeper and founding member of the legendary vocal trio, The Roches, and the band Afro-Jersey, Terre has performed in many clubs and concert halls throughout the United States and Europe and appeared on numerous TV shows over the course of her 50-plus year career. She is a co-creator with jazz pianist Garry Dial of "Us an' Them," a collection of national anthems from 16 nations. Her composition, "Star of Wonder," has become a favorite repertoire piece in choirs around the world and is now published by E.C. Schirmer.

Terre sang the role of Squeaky Fromme in John Moran's avant-garde opera The Manson Family. She is the author of Blabbermouth, a memoir about her surprising journey coming-of-age as a female musician in the 1970's. She has worked with Paul Simon, Philip Glass, Linda Ronstadt, Meredith Monk, Don Was, The Muscle Shoals Swampers, Robert Fripp, Tracey Ullman, Kathy Mattea and Garry Dial among others. Terre’s first solo album The Sound of a Tree Falling was released in 1998. Imprint, a collection of original compositions performed with bassist Jay Anderson, was released in 2015.

In 2022, Terre released Kin Ya See That Sun an audio album of live recordings of Terre and her sister Maggie doing arrangements of songs they did when they were teenagers traveling around the country to play on the college coffee house circuit. The album contains many of the songs from Terre and Maggie’s debut duo album Seductive Reasoning as they were originally arranged, for just two voices and two guitars. The album was released digitally and is also presented in a very original and unique format - a hardcover book that includes lyrics, photographs, drawings, and recollections from various people who remember Terre and Maggie from way back when. The book contains QR codes to download the album and also stream individual songs.

In 2024, Terre released Inner Adult, a new album of thirteen original songs, her first since 2015. The songs were recorded at Coral Star Studio on St. John all in one take. The album was released digitally and is also presented as a book like Kin Ya See That Sun.

Lisa and Lori Brigantino grew up 60 miles north of New York City in Katonah, NY where they started making music together as children. The sisters are known for their tight sibling harmonies and musicianship - often juggling a number of different instruments including guitar, banjo, accordion, ukulele, percussion and more. Lisa and Lori regularly perform Lisa’s original songs and select covers at a variety of well-known clubs, coffeehouses, house concerts in NYC and beyond and have been selected to appear at notable conferences and music festivals including The New Jersey Folk Festival (Singer/Songwriter Showcase Winner, 2 years), The Ladybug Music Festival, Folk Alliance, The Florida Music Festival, Maplewoodstock, The Rockland-Bergen Music Festival, Cape May Singer/Songwriter, The Pleasantville Music Festival, The Black Potatoe Festival, The Wellfleet PorchFest. Additionally, the sisters have joined Terre Roche (founding member of The Roches) on stage at a number of her live shows, including her album release shows at City Winery, NYC and more recently in April 2025 as part of the Exposure Project, performing Robert Fripp’s 1979 album “Exposure” live for the first time at City Winery NYC, Boston and Philadelphia, as well as Daryl’s House (Pawling, NY) and The Iron Horse (Northampton, MA).

Lisa and Lori also have a original wacky musical-comedy act called The Vickie & Nickie Show that they have performed in many NYC clubs and as well as regionally. The sisters also perform in the vocal trio “In The Rough” with Broadway veteran Susan Haefner. $20 Advance / $25 at the Door (if available)
Tickets at: https://JoanBaezTribute.eventbrite.com

503 Social Club is proud to celebrate the amazing talent of Joan Baez, American folk singer, songwriter, and activist, known for her distinctive vocal style. Her contemporary folk music often includes songs about social justice and civil rights.

She was one of the first major artists to record the songs of Bob Dylan in the early 1960s. At that time, Baez was already an internationally celebrated artist and did much to popularize his early songwriting efforts. Her tumultuous relationship with Dylan later became the subject of songs from both and generated much public speculation.

Joan Baez is experiencing a resurgence, in part, due to a renewed interest in her activism and music in the context of current social and political issues. Her legacy as a folk music pioneer and a voice for social justice is also being recognized and celebrated. Furthermore, her long-lasting impact on the music industry, particularly her influence on Bob Dylan, continues to be highlighted.

Some of the recent releases bringing Joan back into the spotlight is the Dylan bio pic, “A Complete Unknown", the documentary, “I Am A Noise,” recently released book of poems, “When You See My Mother, Ask Her to Dance,” and book of drawings, “Am I Pretty When I Fly?: An Album of Upside Down Drawings.”

The evening at 503 Social Club will feature performances of Baez’s music by Jaime Della Fave, Sylvana Joyce, Wendy Joyner, Ereni Sevasti, and Rebecca Turner, with special guests Jeff Surawski and Dave Calamoneri.

EDDIE SKULLER SINGS THE BALLADS OF TOM WAITS
An honest, emotionally rich tribute to one of America’s greatest songwriters

Eddie Skuller explores the dark, poetic world of Tom Waits with diverse selections from his extensive catalog. Although Skuller’s amber-saturated vocals contrast with Wait’s raucous gravel-like voice, there is a connection channeled through the music's emotional depth and lyrical intensity. Skuller can forge a deep, powerful bond with his audience, which enhances the tragic expression at the core of Waits’ music. “I connect with the strange nature of life expressed in Waits’ songs through themes of sorrow, regret, desire and dreams,” says Skuller.

This show features a broad range of songs from Tom Waits’ extensive catalog including the ageless treasures “I Hope That I Don’t Fall In Love With You,” “San Deigo Serenade,” “Ol’ 55,” “Downtown Train,” and “Jersey Girl.”

Eddie Skuller is accompanied Joe McGinty (Psychedelic Furs, Ryan Adams, Rhett Miller) on keyboards and Jeremy Chatzky (Bruce Springsteen, Steve Earle, Laura Cantrell) on upright bass. Both musicians are masters of the New York music scene with whom Skuller has performed as a perennial guest singer with The Losers Lounge, an acclaimed tribute series that appears at Joe’s Pub and City Winery.

Philadelphia Daily News: “Skuller embraces the dark and moody but injects the tender promise of hope. Not an easy thing for most singers to pull off.”

New York Times: “(Skuller’s) lofty tenor is too original to pigeonhole.”

The Big Takeover: “Skuller conjures a haunted atmosphere of melancholy introspection.”

Muzikreviews: “Eddie Skuller is right out front as the funereal bandleader.”

Chris will be making a special trip up from Chapel Hill, NC, to premiere new material from his upcoming summer release, Anything Is Possible (due July 11 on Label 51 Recordings), as well as a selection of songs from across his more than 5 decades spent "poised between pen and pick," many of which were originally recorded right here in Hoboken.

Chris Stamey began writing and playing music in Winston-Salem, NC, in the mid 1960s. In 1976, he self-released Sneakers, one of the very first American “indie” records, then relocated to Manhattan in 1977 to play and record with Alex Chilton. He formed The dB’s in 1978, then recorded well-received solo records for A&M and Warners, and toured with Anton Fier’s Golden Palominos (with Michael Stipe [R.E.M.], Jack Bruce [Cream], and Bernie Worrell). As a producer, arranger, and mixer, he has worked with over a hundred artists, including Alejandro Escovedo, Kronos Quartet, Flat Duo Jets, Skylar Gudasz, Branford Marsalis, Ryan Adams, Tift Merritt, Le Tigre, Those Pretty Wrongs, The Salt Collective, and Yo La Tengo. From 2010-2018, Stamey was orchestrator and musical director for an international series of concert performances of Big Star’s classic album Third. A “songwriting memoir,” A Spy in the House of Loud (Univ. of Texas Press), was published in 2018. His recent releases include The Great Escape, Lovesick Blues, Euphoria, and New Songs for the 20th Century. His new album, Anything Is Possible, features collaborations with the Lemon Twigs and members of Brian Wilson’s band.

Opening Reception Saturday, May 3, 6:30-8:30

Issa Sow, born in Dakar, Senegal in 1975, is a contemporary Senegalese autodidact painter and a gallerist. In 1999, he moved to Montpellier, France, where he lived for several years before landing in New Jersey with his wife and children.

In 2012, Issa Sow opened the doors of the Issyra Art Gallery, in
Hoboken, New Jersey, which presents local and international artists, handpicked traditional and contemporary African artworks, an extensive collection of Sow’s own body of work in addition to music, dance, and painting workshops supporting Sow in his mission to spread the African culture and his childhood memories of teranga.

While Issa Sow does not conform to a specific art movement in his
paintings, his artistic practice examines the interaction of elements found in both the conscious and unconscious minds by way of unveiling fears and conflicts informed by African oral history and contemporary societal issues to represent the duality that exists in all things in life. Mixing recycled materials and organic colors such as those from coffee, hibiscus or fruits with traditional paints, Sow recurrently makes use of symbols; those of the human, animal, and divinity, not only to confer history but also to protect and help fulfill the viewers' wishes and longings. His work can be read as a spontaneous extension of the practices surrounding Traditional African Masks, wherein his paintings become the medium that enables a dialogue between the spirits and the people.

This spontaneity is also found early in his life. At the age of 9,
Issa Sow leaves school to be home-taught by his father. Given his
inability to write during this period, he extemporaneously developed his craft by drawing every time he was in possession of a pen and by creating his own toys using abandoned items. It is only years later, after being married and having children, that he realized his talent. Women have had an important role in Sow's acceptance of his gift, which led to the appearance of the feminine beauty throughout his paintings. Thanks to his mother who continues the oral transmission of African history and African values and the unconditional love of his wife, many of his artworks integrate the strength of women, and particularly, their innate ability to give birth while granting power to their male counterparts with unshivered humility.

JOSH ROUSE BIO

“Like a baseball player who quietly hits 30 home runs every year or a golfer who regularly finishes in the Top Ten, Josh Rouse's continued streak of excellence is easy to ignore and maybe even downplay a little” -- Tim Sendra, Allmusic.com

You don’t have to work hard to enjoy Rouse’s music. His songs present themselves to you with an open heart, an innate intelligence and an absolute lack of pretension. They are clear-eyed, empathetic and penetrating. Without pandering, they seek to satisfy both your ear and your understanding. The verses draw you in with telling detail, both musical and thematic, and the choruses lift and deliver. They resolve without seeming overly tidy or pat.

Josh Rouse was born in Nebraska, and following an itinerant upbringing he eventually landed in Nashville where he recorded his debut Dressed Like Nebraska (1998).  The album’s acclaim led to tours with Aimee Mann, Mark Etzel and the late Vic Chestnut. The followup- Home (2000)—yielded the song “Directions” which Cameron Crowe used in his film Vanilla Sky.

“Every time I’ve made a record, I’ve tried to make it different from the last one,” says Rouse. “I always became fascinated by a different style of music. But at the end of the day, no matter how eclectic I try to make it, it’s my voice and melodic sensibility that tie things together.”

For his breakthrough album, 1972 (2003), which happens to be the year he was born, Rouse decided to cheer up a bit. Noting that he’d earned a reputation for melancholy, he says, with a laugh, “I figured this is my career, I might as well try to enjoy it.” While the Seventies are often identified with singer-songwriters, Rouse was primarily attracted to the warmer sound of albums back then, as well as the more communal feel of the soul music of that time.  The follow up,  Nashville (2005) continued the hot streak and expanded his audience further.

After relocating to  Valencia, Spain with his wife Paz, Rouse has released a steady stream of high quality songs and albums. Subtitulo (2006) contained the international indie folk hit "Quiet Town". On El Turista (2010) he even experimented with writing and singing some  songs in Spanish. In  2014, he won a Goya Award (the Spanish equivalent of an Oscar) for best song for "Do You Really Want To Be In Love," from the film 'La Gran Familia Española.'

His latest release Going Places came together over the last two years when Josh Rouse found himself unable to tour and hunkered down with his family in Spain. Together with his Spanish band, he began workshopping new songs in a small local venue owned by a friend, resulting in ten road-ready tracks with a looser, more relaxed vibe.

SEAN KIELY is a folk musician, mostly acoustic but sometimes not, from Jersey City, NJ. His most recent record "Postcards of the Reckoning" was named one of the top 10 albums of 2024 by NJ.com and debuted at #15 on the FAI Folk Chart. His lyrics "summon epiphanies and moments of clarity in the middle of storms" and his music chases beauty to unexpected yet inevitable conclusions. A stunning and original guitarist, he is an in-demand local and touring sideperson. Kiely recently opened for the legendary Richard Thompson at a sold-out White Eagle Hall in Jersey City, and performed live in-studio at WFUV. Last year his music was recognized by the Jersey City Arts Council and NERFA. No Depression wrote that his debut album "Your Logo, My Logo is one of those sublime and unassuming efforts that sneaks up on you until you find it won’t let go."

JEFF TAYLOR released his debut solo LP, 'A Deeper Kind,' in early 2022.
In 2020 Taylor was handpicked by MacArthur fellow Chris Thile to join the debut cast of an original musical. Oscar and Tony-winning choreographer Justin Peck (West Side Story) directed, with Kurt Crowley (Hamilton, The Warriors) serving as musical director. In the same year, Taylor made his acting debut in AppleTV+/Bad Robot’s ‘Little Voice,’ a drama series produced by Sara Bareilles and JJ Abrams.

2017-2019: Taylor co-wrote/recorded with Donny McCaslin Group - David Bowie's "Blackstar" band - fronting a quintet for an extensive world tour.

2024 saw Taylor’s new project ‘Farmer’ release their debut album 'The Color That Suits You,' featuring Dave Matthews on multiple songs. Once again co-written and produced by Farmer bandmate Geoff Stanfield, the group’s second release is nearing completion.

DEBRA DEVI www.debradevi.com

Debra Devi plays "dreamy blues-rock and blistering psychedelic jams" (Relix) driven by her soulful voice and expressive guitar playing. American Blues Scene calls her “one of  today's top female blues/rock guitarists,” comparing Devi to Bonnie Raitt, Samantha Fish and Susan Tedeschi.

Vintage Guitar praises Devi “soaring guitar solos, Hendrix-style jams and atmospheric slide guitar.” JamBase calls her "a supersonic fret-burner who also writes hauntingly memorable songs."

Devi is a popular draw at blues and rock festivals. Her live EP, Jamification Station Vol. 1, reached #5 on the Relix/Jambands Top 30 Radio Chart, staying on the chart for three months. She's opened for Joan Osborne, Jesse Malin, Willie Nile, Ana Popovic, Fantastic Cat and more.

Devi’s passion for the blues inspired her to write The Language of the Blues: From Alcorub to Zuzu (foreword by Dr. John), which won the ASCAP Deems Taylor Award. Based in Jersey City, NJ, her killer band includes Kevin Jones on bass, John Roccesano on drums and Brian Rigby on keys.

THE PUSHER: Junestar Blackman & Randy Haze

THE PUSHER is an outfit consisting of junestar Mrblackman and Randy Haze. The 2 have been working on projects together and separately with local and nationally acts for 2 decades. They create a soulful yet experimental experience while sounding timeless. Junestar s sultry vocals meets Randy’s colorful guitar playing to create a musical landscape that is not to be missed.

One of the most acclaimed voices in contemporary folk music, Amy Speace has logged more than two decades on the road and onstage. Her music has chronicled that journey—a journey that's taken the Nashville resident from the coffeehouses of New York City to the Glastonbury Festival, Mountain Stage, and other bucket-list venues across the world—with over a dozen solo albums and collaborative projects, including records like The Ghost of Charlemagne (whose title track was named "International Song of the Year" at the UK Americana Awards) and There Used To Be Horses (which matched Speace's songwriting with layers of orchestral strings). Championed by icons like Judy Collins, Speace has received acclaim from NPR, The New York Times, Billboard, The London Sunday Times, and Rolling Stone for her ability to bridge the gap between classic influences and contemporary writing. She turns a new page with 2024's The American Dream, a resilient record rooted not only in timeless folk music but also in heartland roots rock.

Local Artists on Display: Maggie Hinders, Jane Migliore, & Wendy Setzer

Artist in residence Wendy Setzer will be present Sunday, Mar 23, 1-4pm. Stop in and see this stunning show!

In celebration of Women’s History Month, 503 is proud to show the works of three local artists who have made a name for themselves. Exhibit runs from Sunday, March 9 - Sunday April 27. Opening reception is Sunday, March 9, from 3-5pm.

MAGGIE HINDERS -

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

The paintings in this exhibit were made on sections of “repurposed” found lumber that have been cleaned, primed and sealed. The unsanded surfaces connect them to their previous function as rough construction lumber hidden from view. The wood's texture underlies the images and is evidence of a connection to nature. Found wire, intended either for hanging the pieces from nails or as aspects of the

image, emphasizes the series’ origins in salvaged mixed media, and adds to their 3-dimensional quality.

I experience painting as a translation of energy into matter via a mental and physical process. My approach is one of engaging imagination and stream of consciousness, and seeing where it leads. I react to the environment of the painting as I develop it. The resulting image is frequently abstract, with hints of figure entering when it seems necessary.

BIO

Maggie grew up in Western Ohio farm country, several miles from the Mercer county seat, Celina. She graduated from art school in Cincinnati, Ohio and once in New York, developed a career as a book designer for a major publishing house. Post-retirement, she returned to painting full time. Maggie and her husband, Tom, a writer-photographer, have lived in Hoboken since 1984.

JANE MIGLIORE

Bio:

Jane Migliore is a Hoboken artist who paints surrealistic interpretations of her environment and experiences in acrylics and oils. She studied fine art at Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore, as well as graphic and advertising design at the School of Visual Arts in NYC.

Painting and design have remained Jane's two passions, each of which has been a primary focus at different phases of her career. This combination is clearly reflected in the balance and aesthetic of her fine art.

She has exhibited in New York and New Jersey over the past 30 years, with an upcoming exhibition slated for spring of 2026 in Dublin, Ireland.

WENDY SETZER

What moves me to make an Image? I never know, but it will hit me. Perhaps an animal will cross my path and I’ll take a picture to draw from. Perhaps there is beautiful light on a pond, or in the city, or even my backyard. Sometimes I will paint a portrait to sensitively capture an expression. There is always the light and color that bends and defines the form of a face or a landscape.

ANTHONY JANELLI "Moments" Photo Exhibition. Opening Reception Jan 31, 6:30-8:30

Anthony Jannelli - Artist Statement

During my years of teaching at the NYU Tisch Graduate Film School, I gave my students an assignment called Observation. Each student was to bring to class an original photograph demonstrating observational skills. This exercise was based on Robert Frank’s statement “There is one thing the photograph must contain, the humanity of the moment.”

In 2020, I decided to take on the assignment myself, taking one photograph a day during my commute from Hoboken to Washington Square Park. I used an iPhone 8 SE, then an ideal camera for street photography. Before long I had a collection of photos to share with my students. That collection is represented here in MOMENTS, as well as many other images taken since I upgraded to the digital Leica Q2 and Leica D-Lux 8, which have become my every day cameras.

In the time since, I have embraced still photography of various genres including street style, fashion, travel, performance, and portraiture.

Many thanks go out to Alexandra Momin of Picture House NYC.

Anthony Jannelli Bio

After a four decade career as a cinematographer / first unit camera operator Anthony began teaching at the renow NYU Graduate Film Program, where he then became Head of the Department of Graduate Cinematography for 23 years.

As a cinematographer / first unit camera operator he worked on films such as Silence Of The Lambs, Something Wild, New York Stories, Billy Bathgate, Independence Day, Ghostbusters II, Three Men And A Baby, and Big, working with directors such as Jonathan Demme, Martin Scorcese, Robert Benton, and Penny Marshall. His first feature as a director of photography, Longtime Companion, won the 1991 Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival.

Anthony filmed additional photography for the Neil Young concert film Heart of Gold (J. Demme) and joined a team world famous cinematographers on Martin Scorsese’s Rolling Stones documentary, Shine A Light. He served as director of photography on the feature documentary A Decade Under the Influence shown at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival, and the Robyn Hitchcock concert film Storefront Hitchcock (J Demme). Additional documentary work includes My Cousin Bobby (J Demme) and Made in Milan (M Scorcese) a documentary on Giorgio Armani.

Second Unit feature work as cinematographer includes Eight Millimeter (Joel Schumacher), Beautiful Girls (Ted Demme), Little Man Tate (Jodie Foster), Scent of a Woman (Martin Brest), Wolf (Mike Nichols), Spider-Man (Sam Raimi), Maid in Manhattan (Wayne Wang), The Manchurian Candidate (J. Demme), and Angels in America (Mike Nichols).

Cinematography for television includes Blown Sideways Through Life (PBS American Playhouse), Men and Women II, Subway Stories (HBO), and Seven Deadly Sins (Showtime). He has served as director of photography for multiple episodes of Law and Order, NYPD Blue, Dellaventura, Philly, and Ed, and photographed the pilots of Pretender and Queens Supreme (Tim Robbins). He was the cinematographer for the pilot and first season of Law and Order Special Victims Unit, and for east coast location scenes for the Bruckheimer television series Without A Trace, Cold Case, and CSI NY.

Anthony has filmed music videos featuring Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Talking Heads, Bruce Springsteen, Aretha Franklin, and Laurie Anderson, as well as scores of television commercials.

In 2017 Anthony co-directed and co-produced the animated short film The Velvet Underground Played At My High School, which has been shown at over eighty film festivals internationally, and won over 12 “Best Of Festival” award. In 2008 he directed the short film Five Years of Forever, which won the Accolade Award for Excellence in Directio. Currently, Anthony is in pre-production on the Untitled Tom Wilson documentary project, about renown record producer Tom Wilson, being produced by Marshall Crenshaw.

Since 2020, he has focused still photography, including fashion, street style, travel, and portraiture. In 2021, he self-published COMMUTE book on his street photography.

A member of the International Cinematographers Guild and the Directors Guild of America, he has been an instructor at the Sundance Filmmakers Workshop and the Maine Photographic Workshops for Film and Television. Anthony’s love of teaching was inspired by his longtime mentor and friend, Nestor Almendros.

He has been a full time resident of Hoboken since 2002.

ADULT MOM
Adult Mom began as the solo project of Stevie Knipe in a Purchase College dorm room in 2012. Adult Mom now falls between the playful spectrum of solo project and collaborative band with beloved friends and musicians Olivia Battell and Allegra Eidinger. Through reflections and explorations of the personal and hidden, the crux of the writing produced by Knipe is focused on excavation. The dredging out of the secrets, putting it all in a pan, waiting for the gold to rise. Honesty and intimacy form as Knipe writes clever pop songs that offer a glimpse into the journey of a gender-weird queer navigating through heartache, trauma and subsequent growth.

LONG NECK
Lily Mastrodimos has been recording songs as Long Neck since 2014, as a solo project while she was a member of Jawbreaker Reunion. Mastrodimos writes the kind of personal, introspective songs that might be expected of someone who recorded her first album “Heights” alone in her room with a single mic and an MBox. As a full band, Long Neck garnered a reputation for their captivating, high-energy live shows. As a solo artist, Mastrodimos is known for her intimate yet effective performances. Yet however imaginative, Mastrodimos never seems to lose pace of a certain indie sensibility she nails best; songs that exude the energy of silent comfort, like resting your head on the shoulder of someone you love.
